Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
